| Above is the completed drawing of Gorgosaurus libratus from Alberta, Canada. While the arm feathers are speculative, the basal tyrannosaur Dilong is known to have possessed an integument resembling hair-like feathers along its back and tail, and therefore perhaps this sort of body covering was conserved in later members of the group as well. I have proposed the feathers of Gorgosaurus here to fill the role of display structures, for courtship or species recognition. |
